Fasting For Weight Loss

Fasting has been used for thousands of years and until this day. There are different reasons why people fast. Some are for reasons such as spiritual, cleansing or detoxifying, and some use fasting to achieve weight loss.


In this article I will explain to you my experience and others whom I have observed about how fasting for weight loss should be managed. And I will do that in several points.


Performing weight loss through fasting


- Fasting can be followed with different guidelines. When it comes to food you can either refrain from all kinds of liquids or just some liquids and the same thing goes for solid foods.


- When you abstain from liquids for a certain period of time, then you are most likely loosing body fluids more than anything else.


- When fasting is done for detoxification purposes this can lead to a healthier body, and maybe this can lead to weight loss through indirect ways. For example, you can be more energetic and more active in terms of burning more calories.


- When people fast and consume small amounts of particular foods, then technically you are following a low calorie diet. This procedure may be done for spiritual or whatever reason you might have.


- If you think you can follow a good system of fasting for cleansing your system, and at the same time lose some weight temporarily then you should think about that.


Fasting for Weight Loss and the Long Term


What you need to ask yourself is the following:


-How long I am going to fast?


-Can I keep working out to keep my weight loss in check?


-What I am going to do after fasting, and what is the chance of me gaining the weight back if I lost any weight?


As a personal trainer and nutrition researcher, I think fasting can be good for cleansing or detoxification purposes. I also think it will give you something that many people overlook and that is the psychological edge in terms of becoming disciplined and not being tempted to break your fast.


This mental power is an excellent practice when you need it to work out, and follow certain types of eating habits. And I usually remind my clients to focus on the overall picture and the different dimensions that fasting can provide you and not one thing only.

Diet Drinks for Weight Loss


1. Stevia Waters


If you think plain waters sucks, ok fine, I kinda agree with you. I bet you love those sugary drinks, don't ya? Well, they have empty calories. I'm going to have to tell you to stop that right now. Get rid of them. Nope, totally unacceptable to me. But wait, I won't leave you hanging. I'll give you an alternative that gives you plenty of that sugary taste without having to use man-made sugar substitutes. Use STEVIA packets in your water.


This "brightens" up your waters. I put 2 packets in 15 ounces of water. Within 3 days, I stopped totally drinking Mountain Dews and Lemonade.


2. Protein shakes


You can use protein shakes in just water, just milk, or a combination of both. Protein shakes are the ultimate weight loss drink because of their high protein content. What you'll want to do is add about 1 scoop of protein powder... or a minimum of 20 grams of protein for each protein shake.


Blend it up, mix with a spoon, whatever. If you want to add chopped up bananas or apples to it, go for it. This will help add some bulk to it and fill you up better. Use these as mini-meals or sip them with your meals. Doesn't matter. Get 2 a day into your diet.

How Effective Is Apple Cider Vinegar for Weight Loss?

Apple cider vinegar has been in use for weight loss for many centuries. The ancient Egyptians had a theory that enough vinegar in your body would prevent your body from absorbing oils or fats. In those days that theory was cutting edge weight-loss technology.


Some products sold on the market today still ride on this ancient theory. People also think about salad dressing and how the oil and vinegar in the dressing do not mix. They take that as some kind of proof that the vinegar would somehow prevent the oil from turning into fat in your body.


Modern scientific studies have not found any conclusive proof that apple cider vinegar has any substantial effect on weight loss. In a similar vein, apple cider vinegar also does not have a substantial effect on weight gain.


However, there is a way that apple cider vinegar can hamper your weight-loss efforts.


If you take apple cider vinegar with the belief that it enables you to eat whatever you want without gaining weight, then apple cider vinegar will definitely make you "gain weight."


The real problem of apple cider vinegar is not the vinegar itself but the false sense of security that is being sold by many merchants today.


You can find many sites that make promises of how a few teaspoons of apple cider vinegar will help your body burn calories 24 hours a day. Even though the apple cider vinegar would not be bad for your body, scientific studies do not support many of these claims.


In its purest form apple cider vinegar would probably not give you any benefits above the normal benefits of fruits.


If you scrutinize the claims made by many apple cider vinegar merchants you will often find them saying that the product alone will not make you lose weight and that you need to combine it with proper exercise and a sensible diet.


Until scientific studies cast new light on it, you can reasonably assume that apple cider vinegar will do very little for your weight-loss efforts.
